About Us

The Computational Science Initiative models complex and natural processes, including hurricane behavior and coastal erosion, and fuels Louisiana’s economic competitiveness by training a talented, IT-based workforce. Computational Science includes faculty from the departments of engineering, chemistry, computer science, music, mathematics, biological sciences, oceanography, physics and astronomy. The initiative builds on state-funded infrastructure, such as the Louisiana Optical Network Initiative (LONI), a high-speed, fiber optic network that connects supercomputers at the state's major research institutions, and the LONI Institute, a state-of-the-art research collaborative among six Louisiana universities, and LSU's Center for Computation and Technology (CCT), an interdisciplinary research center that advances computational sciences, technologies and the disciplines they impact.
